WSYE has established a growing, global legacy of developing successful, emerging leaders around the world.

The World Summit of Young Entrepreneurs, established in Canada in 1993, has always been coordinated as an integral part of major global conferences that engage leading agencies of the United Nations, including the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

The WSYE has been held nine times in six countries over four continents. Over an 11-year period, the summit has brought together over 4,800 emerging young entrepreneurs (between ages 21 and 42) from 185 countries and has facilitated over 1,000 international joint ventures, ranging in value between $20,000 USD and $2 million USD in a wide array of sectors.

The first four events focused on social entrepreneurs and leaders, with a significant focus on civil society and multi lateral agency representation. The subsequent five events, held between 1997 and 2003, have focused primarily on young entrepreneurs who operate high value added businesses in emerging economies.

"Unless the people of my age are in contact with the younger generation they will not be able to assist in or contribute in finding out what the rules are and how to manage and balance the problems and opportunities of tomorrow."

- BOUTROS BOUTROS-GHALI, former Secretary-General, United Nations, on why the WSYE plays a vital role in the world.

The next WSYE is earmarked as part of the World Trade Forum which is being planned to be hosted in Vancouver, Canada in 2007/08. The World Trade Forum a Global Partnership Mechanism recognized by UN Resolution A/58/207.

Overview of Previous WSYE events:

Facilitated by the World Trade University and the Institute for Leadership Development, the 9th World Summit for for Young Entrepreneurs was held as the first World Summit of Indigenous Entrepreneurs (WSIE). The event was held in August 2003, and was the first conference of its kind.  Entrepreneurs.

The WSIE was held in honour of the United Nations Decade of the World’s Indigenous People. Delegates from 38 countries around the world participated. The Summit was intended to provide a global forum for indigenous entrepreneurs from around the world as well as other entrepreneurs who wish to do business with indigenous people. Goals included helping indigenous entrepreneurs understand how the exchange of business ideas could work at an international level. A key desired outcome was for delegates to leverage what they learned to “up-skill and encourage their community to take charge of their own interests". The Summit was also an opportunity for delegates to identify people and resources that might help them establish their business.

WSIE's program included plenary sessions by experts in various fields and several hands-on interactive workshops to provide participants with the opportunity to network and make contacts, advertise their products and services and explore joint venture opportunities. The next WSIE is scheduled to be held in Vancouver in Fall of 2005 as an integral part of the World Trade Forum, a UN Global Partnership Mechanism.
